The Silent Patient – A book review

Let me review it out of 5 first – 10/5. It is one of the best thrillers I have ever read. Now, I say that about pretty much every book, don’t I, tsk .. tsk.

The plot was tight and the story had an unexpected ending. I never ever would have guessed the story would take the turn it did. The author (Alex Michaelides) did a thorough character sketch of every character in the book. I am not sure how he could pull so much off in 400 odd pages. This one is a real page turner.

**Pro Tip – I recommend that you start reading it on a Friday evening instead of a Monday night, for you will not be able to put it down.

Spoiler Alert

The book explores several themes. The one that resonated with me the most was trust. As I do in everyday life, I found myself trusting a certain character wholeheartedly due to his character traits. The book has been a real eye opener for me. It has taught me to not trust everything that shines and also construct boundaries. This happened to me recently. I hit it off with a sweet lady at a book club event and found myself discussing topics outside of the boundaries of the book. She probably felt uncomfortable and cut off contact with me. I felt sad and did not understand why until I read this book. I have made up my mind to stay in my lane and always be aware of boundaries that I need to keep within – contextual conversations as I call them.

Live and learn everyday.
