If only, poem

If only, I had taken a minute longer to wish you good morning

If only, I had held your hand when you reached out

If only, I had seen the yearning in your eyes

If only, I had taken the day off from work to be at your bedside

If only, If only, If only ….

My life is

so empty without you

so lonely without you

so meaningless without you

If only, If only, If only …

My life is

a sentence without a period

a branch without a tree

a vessel without water

a rainbow without color

If only, If only, If only …

This poem is to honor my mother whose birthday falls on November 30th. It has been more than a decade since she passed. She was an affectionate, caring and bold human being who has left a HUGE void in my life that can be closed off but never filled.
