One could feel the excitement in the air. I was all set up to connect with a long lost friend – I had not heard from her for 20 years and had suddenly found her on FB. I did my hair, applied light makeup and talked about the e-meeting all day.
When the said time arrived, I excitedly made the video call. My friend did not pick up the phone. She called me back on audio. I was disappointed because I really really wanted to see her, but made peace thinking she might have bandwidth issues and such.
Anyway, I started talking to a long lost friend and the person at the other end was as cold as cucumber. I tried for a bit, bringing up lots of pleasant past memories but was met with stiffness. At one point , I could not shoulder the conversation single handedly and hung up after saying good bye.
My family’s ears had been peeled to the shut door and they could not wait to hear about the reunion as I burst out of the room. Instead of a smile they spotted a frown and did not ask further questions.
That is when I realized that relationships of any kind last a season or a lifetime. It is like planting flowers in your garden and shedding tears over annuals which are not meant to be perennials.
I really like how you think about analogies in the real life and apply it to your life.
