The Stranger in the Woods – A book review

My rating – 5/5.

This is a memoir of Christopher Knight written by Michael Finkel. Knight vanished from the world in his 20 s, only to reappear after almost two decades. His family did not lodge a missing person report and there was no one really looking for him.

So, why did he reappear and where did he hide? You need to read this 300 page book to find out. It is un-putdown-able and a very quick read.

My favorite quote from the book (below the book image) reminds me to live with the missing parts and not to constantly seek out a void to fill.

I particularly like the author’s style of writing. It is not judgmental and present facts in a realistic way that does not seem boring. The author keeps up the momentum throughout the book and exposes his human flaws a bit which makes it very real.

I think that most of us feel like something is missing from our lives. And I wondered then if Knight’s journey was to seek it. But life isn’t about searching endlessly to find what’s missing. It’s about learning to live with the missing parts.”
