Carnegie’s Maid – A book review

My rating – 5/5.

This book by Marie Benedict is based on Andrew Carnegie’s life trajectory. It also follows Clara Kelly who is Carnegie’s maid, and paints a picture of her life as well.

Clara is an immigrant who is fiercely ambitious much like Carnegie. By telling us Clara’s story, the author tells us about Andrew Carnegie and how their lives followed similar paths.

I was most surprised to read about the knickerbocker society, how difficult it was to penetrate this exclusive club and the great lengths that were taken to maintain exclusivity. I was left stunned after reading that account.

All in all, a good and tight book. No word was wasted and no ramblings whatsoever.
